This afternoon I made two new pillows with fabric coupons that I picked up from Emmaüs ages ago. Once I got started I saw that there would have been an easier way with just a few more tools in my kit. I made a mental list of the things needed for more efficient sewing projects (more than a single spool of green thread, a rotary cutter, a clear fabric ruler and a pin holder of some sort).

Since this was the first time to use the brand new Ikea sewing machine and the last time I used a sewing machine was nearly two years ago, there were a few frustrating moments – like when the bobbin kept bunging up on the second pillow. At one point I was so frustrated I nearly cussed! Really…I know what you’re thinking…I should have.

The finished product is great (they remind me of the quilted cat-shaped pillows that used to sit on the fireplace at my grandma’s house). With two down, there are still about 4 pillows to go – they will all serve as the backrest to the daybed in our office. Hopefully in the next few days my bare feet won’t find any lost pins in the carpet – in one spastic move I knocked the entire box of pins on the floor.

Happy May 1st!
